Inclusion and behaviour

Inclusion

Wroxham is an inclusive school and we work hard to meet the needs of all our children. All children on the Special Educational Needs and Disability register are provided with an up to date Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is reviewed with the child and parents. Cheryl Mence, Inclusion Leader, is available for advice and support. In the absence of Cheryl please liaise with the class teacher or Headteacher. If you are concerned about your child’s progress please request an appointment with the class teacher in the first instance.

We also maintain a list of Focus children who we monitor closely following any issues or concerns alerted by staff or parents. We do not label any child by so called ‘ability’.

Behaviour

We believe in positive reinforcement of good behaviour. Some classes operate a reward system whereby children gain recognition for good behaviour. We operate a ‘time out’ system during lesson times. If a child refuses to co-operate following a warning he/she may be sent to an adjoining class for time out. In extreme incidences, the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher will become involved. We believe that close communication with parents is vital and will always let you know if we have any concerns about your child’s behaviour.

Any racist comments or incidents will always be followed up formally. Bullying is also taken very seriously and children are encouraged to tell an adult if they feel threatened or unhappy. We will always work with the child and family to approach a solution that they feel comfortable with.
