What happens in Year 5 at Wroxham
In year 5, we continue to develop the children’s knowledge and skills in all areas of the curriculum. We use a cross-curricular approach to deliver our topics, including myths and legends in English and exploring Archimedes’ principle in science when learning about the Ancient Greeks. In maths, we continue to build upon their understanding and extend their learning at every opportunity.
The children will also develop their speaking and listening skills in order to participate in a range of presentation opportunities throughout the year. This includes the Christmas play in which Year 5 children have the main parts.
Year 5 also have the opportunity to participate in the national ICT programme, Apps 4 Good. They will be designing an app to market to the general public.
We organise a number of trips throughout the year and also arrange activities with our local secondary schools to start to prepare the children for the next phase in their education.
We welcome support from families and are very grateful for any help with hearing the children read in the mornings.
This year our topics are: Vicious Vikings?, Extreme Earth and The Ancient Greeks
Our school blog!
We keep a blog to keep our parents and children updated of what has happened and what’s going to happen throughout the year.
